PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE
RIVER HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Kindergarten
Laura Gale
In my final practicum I had the privilege of being placed in Laura Gale's Kindergarten class. I grew leaps and bounds in my teaching practice in terms of flexibility, lesson differentiation, and so much more. I enjoyed teaching lessons centred in numeracy and literacy that engaged my students. I taught 100% for 10 weeks which allowed me to get a sense of the work and responsibility that goes into teaching a class effectively. I couldn't be more thankful for the experience that I received from this practicum.
MEDICINE HAT CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Grade 6
Jessilyn Swanson
In my third year I had the opportunity to complete my Practicum 1 at the Medicine Hat Christian School. I was so blessed to be placed in such an amazing school. My mentor teacher was so influential in my educational career and the students showed me how compassionate little people can really be. I loved the incorporation of Christian ideologies into everyday schooling. This practicum allowed me to teach 50% so I was able to understand lesson planning more deeply as well as what works the best with students.
HERALD SCHOOL
Grade 1
Josianne van Middelkoop
In this practicum I was able to utilize the skills that I have learned regarding miscue analysis. Â I evaluated five different students in my time at Herald School. I had the opportunity to get more comfortable with the Fountas and Pinnell reading tools. I felt that this practicum was invaluable in the way that it allowed me to develop my skills to assess students reading abilities.
SEVEN PERSONS SCHOOL
Grade 4
Lana Christmann
This practicum took place in my second semester of my first year. I had the opportunity of creating my own lesson and teaching it to the students. I crafted a cross curricular lesson including language arts and art. It was incredibly rewarding to watch the students carry out an activity that you have created from scratch. Teaching this lesson allowed me to learn more about classroom management as well as student engagement.
